Zoo Negara

View all 12 photos...
had visited KL's national zoo on saturday. all i can say is...its overpriced (RM15 per person) and smells "wonderful". not many pictures of the animals as most of them are pretty common not to mention not very clean or lively as compared to the one in malacca (cheaper and better in all ways!!).

so..basically resorted to taking lanscape shots (though it seems irrelevant being in a zoo) as the skies were beautiful that day. enjoy...

a lovely day to have a snapshot right? clear sky without the haze....nice collections here...

david koh? ur name have a great commercial value i guess..

Life in colour at the historical city of Malacca

alright...as promised, coloured pictures. basically candid shots of people all around. in addition to acquiring new angles and composition, i seemed to have picked up a skill of shooting things without looking (a lurker is born-ed!! ). but then, it isnt ethical to do so. so i guess it will only be just this once (i hope...hehe).

it is always better to ask for permission before shooting a subject however the major disadvantage of this is usually stiffness and awareness that a 72mm lens is pointing right at your face...if not given harsh denial of the photo. best example was Winnie and I trying to photograph a kid playing blowing soap bubbles. as soon as he saw the 2 zoom lenses pointing at him...he ran for cover behind is mummy....

kenneth also approached both a tourist and a trishaw rider to take their photos...and told them to be natural. fact of the matter is...the both turned out stiff as a brick. maybe its just us inexperienced in handling such situations...or maybe its normal. either way, we're gonna improve on this.

enough talk..pictures are gonna do the rest of the talking. comment away...

Life in monochrome at the historical city of Malacca

Statue of St. Paul
View all 16 photos...
well, this time the photogs made a trip down to historical city of Malacca (yes...again...) and decided to stay the night this time around. we have decided that we shall lay off animals, flowers and insects for a while and practise more on architecture, landscapes and of course...life (people) around.

basically, my intentions were more focused on practising and try out new angles and compositions...and see what best suits my style. so far...am relatively happy with it but its still a hit & miss game. will definately need more practise and familiarization. also, this post is solely dedicated to monochrome (black & white) with focus on lightings. more colours and life in the next post.

till then...enjoy and comment away.

I keep getting disconnected!!!. B&W on singer/guitar player is good but the most outstanding one is the "hardlifein melaka shot". different view and shots...variation is good. different from before. Mon 6-Nov-2006 16:32

Taman Jaya & Lake Gardens

alright, made a quick trip to Taman Jaya for a quick shoot out before Winnie arrived back to PJ. shots wise...so so. landscaping basically. contemplating on a 72mm circular polarizer but this will only happen after i get my speedlight. not too sure which one though...430EX or save a little more for the 580EX...or perhaps go 3rd party like Sigma...

anyhow, headed to Plaza Mount Kiara for some quick night shots of the fountain...which soon led to us being chased away as they proclaimed photographs not allowed. i mean its the just the fountain. not pointing at shops nor shooting inside the building. perhaps the lens freaked them out. oh well...managed to get some angles in anyway...

did i mention Winnie got herself a Nikon D70S?! welcome to to the world of DSLR Winnie!! now comes the challenge of getting the right settings at the right moment and making sure you have no handshakes!! went over to Lake Gardens to test out her new camera. wasnt too sure of what to compose but i did try my best. what to do...hand kinda sore after shooting 3 days in a row. maybe i should also get a battery grip for the 400D.

do enjoy the pictures (at least try... ). comment as usual.

first and foremost...damn you Kenneth for giving me poison (puchased a new lens when i said i wouldnt ) anyway, no regrets...its a really good lens for a super affordable price tag.

shots at memorial park was with kit lens and some with my zoom lens with my new circular polarizer which was awesome by the way. shots in sunway pyramid and hockey training session was with the new Canon 28-135mm IS USM lens. still contemplating on whether to get a circular polarizer for this new baby. hehehe. enjoy the pictures...

Haha...kena poison again by kenneth...
#3 good angle!
#4 good angle but is it not sharp?
#7 Butt? Tummy? haha...why you like that, david?...naughty ya.. hehe..

Prefer your butterfly park and melacca zoo shots...
Pls: Kenneth, wher's yours?

The best is to view this TUGU at wide angle to see the surrounding. So, i am enjoying this rather wide lens view. I see angle of "tourist snapshots" & "candid moments" although getting the first pic #1 was never easy due to the bus loads of tourist....
Ice hockey was good. Turns out well but can surely get more drama into it (if it was a tournament game).

Putrajaya at night

Mosque...

View all 16 photos...
headed over to putrajaya at night for some shooting. too bad photog Winnie was back at her hometown. guess after seeing this, she would definately bug us to return. hehehe. anyhow, Kenneth and I still proceeded with the outing. wanted to test out our night shoting with long exposures. and here's the outcome of it is derived with the following equations:

putrajaya at night + long exposures + tripods = good shots.
good shots + haze = satisfactory shots.

however, i think the Canon 400D kicked the Nikon D70S butt when it comes to noise reduction handling and night shots. hehehe. oh well, enjoy!!

Thumbs up for the shots that screams for more. Need to go one more time. Hope the haze clear up fast. Anyhow, this was indeed a worth while outing for us. Readers, hope to move to potraits soon. Stay tune. If potraits as good as landscape, we'll be in business. Tue 24-Oct-2006 17:03

[back-dated post due to problems with pc] was on leave on friday and decided to head on over to kl's bird park for a quick photoshoot before meeting up with fellow photogs in the evening. shots turned out ok. quite alot of blur ones as i was shooting in the 200mm-300mm focal range as i was shooting close-ups on insects. not forgetting, the keep flapping their wings. if you think shooting birds are difficult, butterflies are worse!!

met up with the gang after the shoot and due to rainy whether, not much could be done. so headed over to One Utama's carnival (where i got sick soon after a ride as there was a change in tempreature). hahaha. enough of that la...enjoy the pictures!! comment away...

Haha David, Caroline is right, the rides at one utama's carnival were not that fast la...

[back-dated post due to problems with pc]. recently went over to the land of spicy food and exotic nightlife. went over there for a holiday with my darling (she was already working there on project...kesian). will definately return again as i didnt have much time to visit all wats (temples) as well as shoot the nightlife scene which it is known for. wish i had a circular polarizer and a kit lens hood...kept getting flares and contrasting is a little poor. oh well, enjoy the pictures and comment as usual...
